Wellfield Botanic Gardens is a 36-acre botanical garden located in Elkhart, Indiana, situated on a historical site that has served as a source of drinking water for the city since the mid-1800s. The organization's mission is to cultivate art, education, and ecology to foster a more vibrant and sustainable world, with a vision of growing community through beauty and nature. Originally conceived as a community service project by the Elkhart Rotary Club in 2002, Wellfield Botanic Gardens operates as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. It features over 20 themed garden areas, including an English-style garden, a waterfall garden, and a Japanese Island Garden, as well as an "Adventure Path" for children. The gardens are open year-round and host a variety of activities such as special events, festivals, workshops, educational programs, a summer concert series, and a winter holiday lights display. Facilities are also available for rent for private events like weddings and corporate gatherings. The horticulture department is central to the garden's aesthetic and function, while the education department offers learning initiatives for all ages, and guest services manages events and visitor interactions. Wellfield Botanic Gardens also integrates art installations throughout its landscape, enhancing the visitor experience.
