Details:
Will AI take my job – and everyone else’s? How do I protect my job? Is AI self-aware – or will it be? How much should I believe the hype? What does it mean when an AI “hallucinates” or “misaligns” or “schemes?” What does a data center actually do? Does AI really need a bottle’s worth of water for every query? Will the AI bubble burst? What is a deepfake? How do I talk to my parents or kids about AI? Why do all AI images look like that?
In the few years since large language models became available to the general public, the flood of hype, fear, promise, and new terminology has seemed inescapable, and as a technology that appears to always be a nexus of controversy, it can be difficult to know who to believe. In this workshop, we’ll look to answer your questions with easy-to-follow explanations, even for those with little or no experience with AI, or technology in general.
If you would like to submit any anonymous question(s) for discussion, you may do so at this link – or come with it in person, or simply listen and (hopefully) learn!
This lecture is geared toward adult learners, but is accessible to interested teens and tweens. Registration is kindly requested for this program.
This lecture is part of the Spotlight on AI series – a monthly look at how this powerful and destabilizing technology is affecting both our day-to-day lives and the broader landscape of world events.
