Self-Guided Prairie Wildflower Walkabout

Join us for an enriching outdoor experience with two exciting self-guided strolls this summer! First, immerse yourself in the vibrant blooms of Pennsylvania’s only managed prairie during the Self-Guided Prairie Wildflower Walkabout at Jennings Environmental Education Center, taking place from July 18 to August 2. Guests can pick up a free guide to explore the stunning and diverse wildflowers that thrive in this unique environment. Discover their fascinating adaptations and the intricate relationship between these blooms and the local ecosystem. The walk is accessible from sunrise to sunset, and visitors are encouraged to prepare with water, sunscreen, and appropriate footwear.

Additionally, enjoy a delightful Storywalk as you explore the Watershed trail at the Kings Gap Hollow Area. Read "Thomas Jefferson and the Mammoth Hunt" by Carrie Clickard while taking in the beauty of the woods. Don’t forget to sign the guestbook during your visit!

If you're with little ones, don't miss the Summer Storybook Stroll in July and August 2026, featuring "A Chip Off the Old Block" by Jody Jensen Shaffer. This child-friendly, paved trail begins at the end of Landis Road, allowing young explorers to read along the way as they follow a ½ mile round trip route to the lake. Book pages will guide the journey, and a Visitor Booklet awaits at the end for you to share your thoughts! Each of these events offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature through literature and exploration.
