Self-Guided Prairie Wildflower Walkabout

Experience the beauty of nature and literature at Jennings Environmental Education Center this summer with a series of engaging events. From July 18 to August 2, participate in the Self-Guided Prairie Wildflower Walkabout, where visitors can explore Pennsylvania’s only managed prairie during its peak bloom. Obtain a free guide at the prairie side parking lot to discover the fascinating stories of the unique blooms and their ecosystems. Prepare for your adventure with water, sunscreen, and closed-toed shoes, as mornings are the best time to visit.

In addition to the wildflower walk, families can enjoy the Summer Storybook Stroll throughout July and August 2026. Along a stroller-friendly paved trail on Landis Road, guests can read the featured book “A Chip Off the Old Block” as they follow the journey of a pebble discovering its identity. Another Storywalk featuring "Thomas Jefferson and the Mammoth Hunt" can be found along the Watershed trail in the Kings Gap Hollow Area. Make sure to sign the Visitor Booklet and guestbook during your visit!

To enhance your exploration, borrow a Nature Exploration Backpack from the Park Office, available with themes covering Birds, Insects, Plants/Fungi, and Rocks & Minerals.
