Details:
Enjoy a guided tour of the historic Hotel Alcazar. Completed in 1888, the Hotel Alcazar was commissioned by Standard Oil executive Henry Flagler. Designed by the renowned architectural firm of Carrère and Hastings, the Hotel Alcazar was Flagler’s second grand resort hotel in St. Augustine. The Alcazar was initially conceived as an entertainment annex for the Ponce de Leon, but the design was revised and expanded to create an independent hotel. Inspired by the elegance of European resorts, Flagler helped shape St. Augustine into a winter retreat for America’s elite, building magnificent hotels that provided visitors with modern comforts and extravagant leisure. To attract its wealthy Gilded Age clientele, the Alcazar featured an alluring combination of exotic architecture, modern amenities, sports and entertainment facilities, and fine cuisine. Today, as the Lightner Museum, the former Hotel Alcazar welcomes visitors from all over the world. The museum celebrates the remarkable history of the hotel and its place in Henry Flagler’s powerful vision to shape the future of Florida at the dawn of the 20th century.
