South Bend Civic Theatre (SBCT), established in 1957 by two Notre Dame graduates, champions community theatre as a vital component of local culture, showcasing the talents of aspiring actors and actresses. Initially performing in various venues, SBCT found a home at the historic Firehouse after 1968. In 2000, the theatre expanded its ambitions, seeking a new permanent venue. The opening of a beautifully restored former First Church of Christ Scientist in downtown South Bend in January 2007 marked SBCT’s 50th Anniversary, solidifying its role as a cornerstone of the regional arts community.
