Off The Record is Adams Street Library's occasional live concert series that combines live music, immersive reading, and artist talks. Drop in and join us for an afternoon of live music with the Sohei Narita Quartet and conversation with composer Sohei Narita. 2:30-3:15 PM Enjoy a mix of jazz standards and original compositions. Feel welcome to bring a book or sketchbook for an immersive reading/making session! 3:30-4:30 PM Hear original compositions with commentary from the artist on the songwriting process and inspirations behind the tracks. ABOUT THE ARTISTS Sohei Narita is a saxophonist and composer based in New York City. His music combines singable melodies, rich harmonic textures, and influences from both jazz and contemporary classical music. Through performance, composition, and collaboration, he continues to explore a deeply personal and expressive musical voice. His work seeks to tell stories that invite listeners into moments of reflection and discovery. Sanchez Fernandes is a musician, composer, and educator whose style is influenced by pop and jazz artists such as John Mayer, John Legend, John Scofield, and John Coltrane. Originally from India and now based in New York City, he has performed alongside renowned artists including Jatin Pandit, Dr. L. Subramaniam, Kavita Krishnamurthy, and Rasika Shekhar. Through performance, composition, and education, Sanchez strives to inspire creativity, strengthen community and encourage people to have fun through music. David Najera Gonzalez is a Mexican drummer, composer and educator currently based in NYC. When he is not a sideman, he actively leads Viento, a jazz-rock trio. Mason O'Donnell (Bass) is a New York-born professional bassist active throughout the tri-state area. He has studied with respected bassists including Joe Martin, Neil Miner, and Lindsey Horner, and has performed at venues across New York, including Minton’s Playhouse, the Louis Armstrong House, and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. In addition to performing, Mason is passionate about teaching music and sharing his love of music with students and audiences alike.
