Leonard Library, a historic Carnegie branch of the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) located in Williamsburg, has served the community for nearly 120 years. Officially opened in 1908, it is famously known as the library visited by the character Francie in Betty Smith's novel, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." The library offers a range of services and programs, including popular children's programming like "Story Play" and "Jump, Dance and Wiggle." It also provides resources for High School Equivalency diplomas, college degrees, career and business help, and access to BPL's online catalog. Recently undergoing renovations to preserve its historic features and improve its facilities, Leonard Library aims to remain a vibrant and vital cultural and civic center for the Williamsburg community, adapting to its changing needs while continuing its mission to protect stories from all perspectives. The library also features a learning garden created by the Friends of Leonard Library.
