The Wind Rivers - Off-Trail (In-Person & Live-Streamed LAM Talk)

Join us for "The Wind Rivers - Off-Trail," an in-person and live-streamed LAM Talk led by Tanja, who will share her thrilling September adventure through the Wind River Range in Wyoming. Tanja, accompanied by a small group of mountaineers, embarked on an off-trail backpacking loop that revealed breathtaking landscapes, inspiring campsite names like "Scottish Highlands" and "Paradise Lake." The journey presented numerous challenges, including route-finding, scrambling over boulder fields, navigating dense brush, crossing rivers, enduring powerful thunderstorms, and remaining vigilant for potential wildlife encounters with moose and bears.

Tanja, originally from Bavaria, has a deep-rooted passion for outdoor adventures that began in her childhood hiking the Alps. After moving to the U.S. in 1992 and living in various locations, including Socorro and Washington, D.C., she now resides in Los Alamos. Her diverse outdoor experiences include high-altitude mountaineering, rock and ice climbing, cave diving, bicycle touring, hunting, and fishing, with a current focus on backpacking in remote landscapes. Traveling off-trail allows her to connect with the unspoiled wilderness still present in the Lower 48.
