Details:
Join Gwendolyn Gallagher and Tim Rennick for a challenging and rewarding hike to the summit of Santa Fe Baldy (12,622 ft) with PEEC and the Los Alamos Mountaineers. This strenuous 13-mile round-trip trek begins at the Windsor Trailhead near the Santa Fe Ski Basin, gaining approximately 3,400 feet in elevation. Hikers will traverse well-maintained trails through aspen and pine forests, before facing a steep talus and scree slope to reach the broad summit plateau, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of the Pecos Wilderness and the Rio Grande Valley.
Participants should be in good physical condition and comfortable at high altitudes, as the hike will maintain a moderate, steady pace to ensure a safe return before afternoon monsoon storms. Essential items include sturdy hiking boots, weather-appropriate clothing, sun protection, trekking poles, ample water, and high-energy snacks. Admission is free for PEEC or LAM members, and $5 for non-members.
Gwendolyn, a nature-loving biologist, will share insights on local wildlife and plant life, while Tim, an outdoor enthusiast inspired by his experiences in Ohio and Canada, will bring his passion for hiking and adventure. Together, they foster a collaborative and educational hiking experience in the stunning Northern New Mexico landscape.
