River of Bears

"River of Bears" is a captivating exploration of the McNeil River Alaska State Game Sanctuary, renowned for hosting the largest congregation of brown bears during the summer months. These bears travel hundreds of miles to mate, nurture their cubs, and feast on the abundant sedge grass and spawning salmon. In July, over fifty bears can often be seen at McNeil River Falls, engaging in the dramatic spectacle of salmon swimming upstream. This event showcases the remarkable lives of these bears as they prepare for the harsh Alaskan winter, along with the scientists and visitors who come to observe them each year.
