Details:
In June 2018 our Chapter made a walking tour of the native plants Stockton had added to its landscape around the Student Center and nearby walkways over the previous ten years or so. We will be repeating that tour this month to examine and appreciate the expanded effort the university has made since then that has added still more plants.
Amsonia [above] and many other natives are currently flowering (the pawpaws are fruiting).
We will be identifying the plants, discussing the virtues – and possible problems – of each, and talking about which work best in backyard gardens and other situations.
We will begin briefly in our classroom, move outdoors to the walkway next to the Unified Science Center, then circle the new “quad.” Total distance covered will be a few hundred yards or so, at a leisurely pace along the pavement. We will end at about 8:30 pm.
This is our last meeting before our July & August summer break. Come join us for a friendly and informative stroll.
(In case of rain we will stay in the classroom for a free-ranging Q&A about your experiences gardening – problems, triumphs, and anything in between.)
PARKING DIRECTIONS (slightly different this time):
Follow the signs to park in Lot #3. Lots 4 & 5 are currently closed, but because the university is on its summer schedule and we are meeting in the evening, Lot #3 (Visitors Parking) should be virtually empty – and this will put your car very close to our walk.
