Light the Mic is an open mic night celebrating creativity, community, and self-expression during the Downtown Fullerton Artwalk. Whether you’re a musician, poet, comedian, storyteller, or trying the stage for the very first time, this event is open to all forms of talent and experience levels. Doors open at 6:45pm, with performances beginning at 7:15pm. Featured artistsMichael UbaldiniFolk singer & rocker, the media and fans call 'The Rock n Roll Poet' - is an Outlaw Folk & Rock /Honky Tonk singer-songwriter. A voice of the forgotten regular people who've been kicked around by life. Whether songs of society, protest, social struggle, love, honky tonkin', hard luck, satire or rebellion. He’s a poet & a man with a message. His album Acoustic Rumble was named "#1 album of the year - LA Times & NY Village Voice pazz & jopp and #10 best of the decade" Michael recorded his new album in Nashville TN set for release late 2026 where he does shows three times a year playing regularly at Bluebird Cafe the songwriting mecca. He fronted OC Garage rock legends The Earwigs. He's been compared to songwriting legend's Hank Williams Sr., early Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie & Willie Dixon- not sounding like them - but as a link in the chain of great American songwriting. Alexis Jaimes Alexis Jaimes is a poet and educator from Santa Ana, California. As the proud son of Mexican immigrants, his work explores the intersections of cultural memory, language, generational trauma, and healing. He is the author of The Seeds We Sow (Daxson Publishing, 2026) and Corazón Coalesced (Bottlecap Press, 2024) . His work has appeared in numerous presses as well as showcased at the Fullerton Museum Center and the Huntington Beach Art Center. He teaches in a dual-language classroom, believing in the power of language in all its forms. Alexis can also be found hosting or attending open mics throughout Orange County. Come to share your voice, test new material, or simply enjoy an inspiring night of live performances in a supportive environment.
