Self-Guided Prairie Wildflower Walkabout

Join us this summer for a series of engaging outdoor experiences designed for nature lovers and families alike at Jennings Environmental Education Center. From July 18 to August 2, embark on a Self-Guided Prairie Wildflower Walkabout to explore Pennsylvania’s only managed prairie, where you can discover stunning blooms and their ecological significance. Visitors can collect a free guide at the prairie side parking lot bulletin board or request it electronically. Prepare for an adventure by bringing water, sunscreen, and proper footwear, with the best visiting times in the morning.

In addition, families can enjoy the Summer Storybook Stroll throughout July and August, featuring the delightful tale “A Chip Off the Old Block” by Jody Jensen Shaffer along a stroller-friendly trail. Experience the magic of storytelling as you follow the journey of Rocky, a pebble searching for his place in the world. Keep an eye out for another Storywalk event along the Watershed trail featuring "Thomas Jefferson and the Mammoth Hunt" by Carrie Clickard.

To enhance your outdoor experience, check out a Nature Exploration Backpack from the Park Office, available in topics like Birds, Insects, Plants/Fungi, and Rocks & Minerals, packed with supplies to facilitate hands-on exploration.
