Join Portsmouth Historical Society curator Gerald W. R. Ward for an illustrated lecture of public protests in Portsmouth and the Seacoast area. The people’s right to assemble and to advocate for or against a cause is guaranteed in the First Amendment. Public protests, sometimes successful and sometimes not, have arisen in this area in many political, social, cultural, environmental, and economic contexts, some national in scope while others have been primarily local.
