**Intro to Stick Welding Class**
Join us for the "Intro to Stick Welding" class, perfect for those eager to take on larger steel projects! This hands-on session offers practical experience in a metal shop using a stick (SMAW) welder, with guidance on essential tools like band saws, angle grinders, and torch cutters. Participants are encouraged to bring their own steel for various projects—whether cutting, repairing, or fabricating new items.
What You’ll Learn:
- Safe and effective operation of saws and grinders
- Preparing workpieces for welding
- Understanding how stick electrodes work and selecting common rods
- Estimating amperage based on material thickness
- Striking and maintaining an arc, and managing travel speed, rod angle, and arc length
- Evaluating weld quality for ongoing improvement
- Optional: Oxy-acetylene regulator setup and cutting techniques
**Requirements:**
- Participants must be 18 years or older.
- Non-synthetic clothing (cotton or canvas recommended): long pants, long-sleeve shirt, closed-toe shoes, hair ties for long hair, light-duty work gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection. Safety gear is available on-site if needed.
