The Fountain Bookshop is an independent bookstore & soda shop located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. We are a general interest store, with a robust children's section, adult fiction and non-fiction titles, as well as genre fiction in sci-fi, fantasy, mystery/thriller and romance. We carry titles in English and Spanish.
The Fountain Bookshop is so named for two reasons: we have a soda fountain menu (launching in April 2025) which ties into the "fountain." Owner and founder, Karah Rempe Pinto, has been profoundly influenced by the strong women in her life, and the shop is named after her maternal grandmother, Margaret Fountain Anderson. "Grandma A" as she is known to all, was one of the most joyful people, who found joy in connecting with her family and larger community. She died in 2022 at the age of 97. Karah feels blessed to have had such a long and meaningful relationship with her. The shop and its ethos of community and joyfulness are inspired by her.
