Details:
Experience movie magic the way audiences did a century ago at Silent Cinema, a special series of outdoor film nights at Stuhr Museum. Perfect for families, date nights, or an evening out with friends, Silent Cinema invites guests to enjoy classic silent films under the summer sky while exploring entertainment from a different era.
July's film is Safety Last!, starring Nebraska's own Harold Lloyd, best known for the iconic scene of him dangling from a clock high above a city street, Lloyd helped define early Hollywood comedy through his daring stunts and relatable everyman character.
Born in Burchard, Nebraska, Harold Lloyd became one of the most successful film stars of the 1920s, appearing in nearly 200 films throughout his career. Today, he is remembered alongside Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton as one of silent cinema's greatest pioneers.
Before the films begin, families can enjoy hands-on activities inspired by the movies, and the Silver Dollar will be open with popcorn and other snacks available for purchase.
Films begin at dusk (around 7:30-8 pm). The museum grounds will remain open for the screening, but exhibit buildings and exhibits not associated with Silent Cinema will close at 8:00 pm.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket and settle in for an unforgettable evening of classic entertainment under the stars!
