Textile Repair Cafe

The Textile Repair Café at Almaden Library is a free, hands-on event where you can learn to repair your clothing, or get repairs done by skilled volunteer fixers -- all in one place. Participants can learn basic repair techniques or have an item repaired by an experienced textile repair specialist, or both. Learn beginner-friendly hand sewing skills such as hemming, sewing on buttons, patching denim, repairing rips and small holes from experienced textile repair experts. Each station will focus on a different repair skill and participants may choose which stations to attend. Sample kits of supplies will be provided. Walk away with practical skills, greater confidence, and the ability to extend the life of your favorite clothes with everyday repairs. Experienced volunteers from Repair Café Silicon Valley will also be on site to assess and repair items that may be difficult to fix on your own. Bring up to two items per family, such as torn clothing, broken zippers or stuffed animals in need of extra stuffing or seam repair for on-site repair by an expert. This is a free, drop-in event with service provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Repairs depend on available tools and volunteer expertise, and participants requesting repairs will be asked to sign a waiver. Please note: This event is focused on textiles only.
