Details:
Try your hand at panning for gold in the James River while discovering Virginia’s unique geology. Learn about the rocks and minerals found throughout the park and explore the magnetic sands that line the riverbanks. This hands-on program offers a fun look at the natural forces that shaped the region—and the treasures they left behind. The program will begin with a 0.5 mile walk down to the river over mostly even terrain terrain. Please meet at Green Hill Pond. Participants must be ages 10 and older. Wear closed-toe shoes and come prepared to get wet. All materials provided. Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather and bring a water bottle with you.
