We’re inundated by photographs of products and services for sale, many are clever, but lack soul. Meanwhile, almost everyone has a camera on their phone and photography is immensely popular. It can be rewarding – there are many campfires tended to by the positive and playful. Expressions of this impulse are portrayed in photographs that provide another point of view, a smile, a good laugh or even an insight. Photographer and experimental geographer, Hank Meals, has stalked and stumbled into off-handed imagery for years and he’s assembled a collection in his latest slide show From the Hip: Casual Photos of Contradictions and Conundrums. Hank will provide ongoing commentary informed by his background in anthropology, history, geography, art and a simple version of the good life.
