It invites reflection on the ongoing journey toward freedom while honoring the resilience, brilliance, and enduring spirit of Black people across generations. โ๐พ On June 19th, 1865, in Galveston, Union troops arrived to announce that enslaved Black people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. What is now celebrated as Juneteenth stands as both a celebration of liberation and a reminder of delayed justice, perseverance, and the continued fight for equity. In honor of this legacy,Poetic Pages: Where Black Poets Speakoffers an evening of Black storytellingliving stories, shared histories, and a gathering in community to commemorate through Black artistry.
