Learn about some of the history of Native Americans in Lycoming County. Local Archeologist Thomas Tank Baird will take you on a stroll on the Heritage Trail at Riverfront Park and talk about the unique history of the area. Riverfront Park was formerly the Native American Village of Ostonwakin. He will bring with him Native American artifacts that were excavated right in that same area! Meet at Riverfront Park located at 2845 Greevey Rd, Williamsport, PA 17701. Please wear athletic footwear for the walk on the trail.
Thomas “Tank” Baird is president of North Central Chapter 8 of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology. Baird is a popular speaker, presenting on history and prehistory throughout the region and is a regular contributor to PBS as an authority on Native Americans in the Northeast. He travels to prehistoric and historic sites in the Northeast and Midwest to organize artifact identification programs and presentations on Native American cultures. Baird is also the founder and president of the annual 9-11 Memorial Ride drawing as many as 10,000 motorcycle riders.
