Celebrate the nation’s 250th and Colorado’s 150th milestones with a special LED screen showing of Hamilton in O'Kane Park.
History comes alive as Alameda Connects presents a FREE outdoor Movie in the Park screening of the acclaimed musical Hamilton on Tuesday, June 30 at 6:00 PM in O’Kane Park, 7101 W 1st Ave. (between Newland and Teller). Thanks to a high-brightness LED screen, the movie will begin right at 6:00 PM, allowing for an early start time that is perfect for families to enjoy an evening out with a blanket, a lawn chair and a picnic.
This year marks a dual milestone: 250 years of the United States and 150 years of Colorado, known locally as Colorado’s “Sesquisemiquincentennial.” The event kicks off Independence Day week with this modern retelling of the founding era, highlighting the nation’s origins grown from reasoned debate and compromise while presenting the founders as complex, real people rather than flawless icons.
The musical reminds us of the grievances in the Declaration of Independence, when the colonists rose up against the King, who bypassed agreements and ignored the legislature. Hamilton portrays the development of the United States’ foundational principles including liberty, equality, checks and balances, and the ongoing responsibility of citizens to engage in democracy because “history has its eyes on you!”
This neighborhood gathering is organized in alignment with the America 250 - Colorado 150 statewide celebration to bring the us together to pause and reflect on the shared history of the people who make our nation unique, serving as a reminder to avoid “forgetting from whence you came.”
