Shakespeare in the Park: “Romeo and Juliet” | Memorial ParkAugust 27-29Event Details:Experience another of the world’s greatest playwright’s works at Memorial Park Bandshell. Shakespeare in the Park is a high-quality annual theater event presented free of charge to the public by the Wheaton Park District and Wheaton College’s Arena Theater.

Summary:“An age-old vendetta between two powerful families erupts into bloodshed. A group of masked Montagues risk further conflict by gatecrashing a Capulet party. A young lovesick Romeo Montague falls instantly in love with Juliet Capulet, who is due to marry her father’s choice, the County Paris. With the help of Juliet’s nurse, the women arrange for the couple to marry the next day, but Romeo’s attempt to halt a street fight leads to the death of Juliet’s own cousin, Tybalt, for which Romeo is banished. In a desperate attempt to be reunited with Romeo, Juliet follows the Friar’s plot and fakes her own death. The message fails to reach Romeo, and believing Juliet dead, he takes his life in her tomb. Juliet wakes to find Romeo’s corpse beside her and kills herself. The grieving family agree to end their feud.”

This is a general admission event. All seating areas are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserving seats or space before the gates open (5:30P) is prohibited.
Guests are allowed and encouraged to bring a blanket or a standard bag/camping chair. Please be considerate and do not use/reserve more space than you need to allow room for other guests.
If you require ADA assistance during your visit or require handicap accessible seating, please contact us at least 72 hours prior to the event at events@wheatonparks.org. Requests for sign language interpreters must be made at least 2 weeks in advance.
