Details:
The Mother Road & Iconic DuPage Firsts Exhibit will take place from August 15 to November 14, 2026, at the DuPage County Historical Museum (102 E. Wesley St.). This exhibit celebrates the 100th anniversary of Route 66, known as the “Mother Road,” alongside significant milestones in DuPage County history, including the first 18-hole golf course, the first rails-to-trails conversion, the first public library, and the first shot fired at Gettysburg.
Additionally, from August 15 to September 30, the museum will host various historic programs to commemorate the United States' 250th anniversary. Activities include a DIY family crafting event on August 15, where participants can create American flag artwork, and an illustrated lecture by Laura Keyes on September 26, highlighting the vital contributions of women in early American history. The celebration will culminate on September 30 with a lecture by Terry Lynch, who will reflect on past milestones in U.S. history, including the 50th Jubilee and Centennial milestones.
