Celebrate Juneteenth at this special Family Friday exploring the stories of freedom, courage and community before, during, and after the Civil War. Drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to design a Civil War inspired battle flag and learn how flags and symbols help tell the story of identity and unity for Civil War soldiers. Visitors can also register to join the guided tour, “Barbers, Buxton and Beyond: Black Iowans and the Formation of Iowa” to discover the important role Black Iowans played in shaping Iowa’s history before, during and after the Civil War. The drop-in activity is recommended for younger learners and the guided tour is recommended for older learners.
