Details:
In May 2026, the State Historical Museum of Iowa will unveil the "A250 Revolutionary Iowans Exhibit Experience," celebrating Iowa's connections to the American Revolution and the Early Republic in honor of the United States' 250th anniversary. This immersive exhibit invites visitors to explore the significance of the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution for Iowans, despite Iowa's statehood being established in 1846. Attendees can discover the stories of 23 “Revolutionary Iowans” who championed life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, learn about over 40 Revolutionary War veterans buried in Iowa, and interact with unique artifacts, including a tactile Declaration of Independence and items from the American Revolution.
Additionally, the museum will host a Junior Curator Day Camp for young historians entering 4th to 6th grade. This unique program will allow students, aged 9-12, to dive into the roles of curators, conservators, and exhibit designers. Participants will investigate historic artifacts, explore the museum's collection vault, and create their own themed exhibit using objects from the museum's collection, all for a fee of $65 per person. Explore Iowa's rich history and engage with its revolutionary past through these exciting experiences!
