Age: 18+ Instructor: Erica Fitzgerald Free (Spaces limited, must register to attend) Saturday, September 20 | 10am - 1pm This workshop introduces the art of mending as both a practical skill and a powerful metaphor for collective repair, resilience, and feminist resistance. Participants will learn basic mending techniques—visible and invisible repair—while collectively working on a large-scale textile piece made from discarded fabric. As we stitch together what was once torn or cast aside, we reclaim not only material but meaning, building something monumental from what was broken. Mending is an act of care and attention. It resists waste, celebrates imperfection, and honors the labor of hands. Historically, women have used fiber work to hold together the physical and emotional fabrics of their families and communities. In this workshop, we draw on that legacy, transforming it into a collective and public act of empowerment.
