The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a beef cattle herd health and New World screwworm update on June 17 in Alice. The cost of the event is $20, cash or check at the door. Lunch will be included and will start at noon, followed by the program at 1 p.m. Topics and speakers include: Update on the status of New World screwworm in Texas — Sonja Swiger, Ph. D., AgriLife Extension entomologist and professor, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Stephenville. Wildlife considerations and best management practices — Marcus Blum, Ph. D., AgriLife Extension statewide wildlife specialist and assistant professor Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management. Managing the spread of New World screwworm — Wayne Crounch, Ph. D.,regional director, Texas Animal Health Commission. Best management health practice for beef cattle and other livestock — Karl Harborth, Ph. D., AgriLife Extension livestock specialist and assistant professor, Department of Animal Science. Panel discussion/question and answer session. Two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available for licensed pesticide applicators.
