About the Artists:
HAILEY BRINNEL
Hailey Brinnel is a trombonist, vocalist, and educator based in Philadelphia, PA. At the age of 12 she began performing throughout New England with her father Dave Brinnel. Brinnel was a finalist in the 2021 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and named one of GRAMMY.com/'s "10 Emerging Jazz Artists to Watch". She has performed at venues around the world, Hailey Brinnel's performance highlights include prestigious venues such as Dizzy’s Club, The Kennedy Center, The North Sea Jazz Festival, The Kimmel Center, Birdland Jazz Club, Lincoln Center, The XPoNential Music Festival, The Lake George Jazz Festival, World Cafe Live, and The Washington Women in Jazz Festival. She has also recorded music for the Fox TV Network and NBC. Her critically acclaimed sophomore album Beautiful Tomorrow. She was also a featured clinician in the 2026 Jazz Education Network Conference and 2020 National Jazz Conference with her workshop A Melodic Approach to Scat Singing. She is currently on faculty at Temple University.

MERVIN TOUSSAINT
Mervin Toussaint is a Philadelphia-based saxophonist, composer, and educator whose work draws on jazz, gospel, and contemporary influences. A Haitian American artist, his musical foundation was shaped in the Haitian church, where he first experienced music as a powerful means of expression and connection. His music explores themes of identity, spirituality, and community through a blend of improvisation and contemporary
Black musical traditions. Since moving to Philadelphia in 2016, he has developed a distinctive voice reflecting both his cultural background and the city’s rich musical traditions.
In 2022, Toussaint released his debut album, LAKAY, a project exploring themes of identity, spirituality, and personal history. Alongside his performing career, Toussaint is dedicated to music education and currently serves as Branch Coordinator of Settlement Music School’s Germantown branch, where he mentors young musicians and supports the next generation of artists.
