Join us for an enriching day of craftsmanship and heritage on Saturday, June 20, 2026, with two unique workshops happening concurrently in La Farge and Viroqua, WI.
**Harvesting and Processing Basswood Fiber** with Nicholas WazeeGale (9:00 AM - 4:30 PM): Discover the ancient art of harvesting and utilizing fiber from the American Basswood tree. Participants will learn about the ecological significance of these trees, harvest a small tree, peel its bark, and begin the retting process to create finished fiber. Attendees will also explore various rope-making techniques and can take home their handmade cord and bark. Lunch is provided. Ages 8 and up are welcome, and materials fees are $15.
**Hammered Copper Bowls with Stone Tools** with Martha Buche (9:00 AM - 12:30 PM): Experience the traditional craft of hand-forging copper bowls using basalt hammer stones. This workshop will guide participants through the process of sinking the metal and annealing it in a wood fire, culminating in beautifully crafted vessels. Participants should wear close-fitting work gloves, and safety goggles are optional. Materials fees are $25, and the class is suitable for ages 12 and older.
Both workshops offer sliding scale ticket options to facilitate accessibility, ensuring that everyone can participate regardless of financial circumstance. For further details and to register, please visit the Driftless Folk School's website.
