Details:
Join us for a unique day of hands-on learning in rural Wisconsin, featuring two engaging workshops on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
First, participate in "Chicken Butchering" with Jacob Hundt, where you’ll learn the basics of chicken anatomy and meat sanitation. This half-day class offers practical experience in killing, scalding, plucking, and gutting chickens. Each participant will take home a freshly butchered chicken (one per registration). Suitable for ages 8 and up (children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult). Please bring an apron, a paring knife, and wear clothes that can get messy. The class will be held in Rural Viroqua, WI, with a materials fee of $20.
Simultaneously, Andi Reisdorf will lead a "Summer Mushroom Foraging" class in La Crosse, focusing on mushroom identification techniques and practical foraging tips. Attendees will explore local woods in search of edible and medicinal mushrooms, but should come prepared for off-trail hiking. This class is geared toward adults, responsible teenagers are welcome with a participating adult.
Both workshops offer sliding scale course fees to ensure accessibility, with supporter, sustainer, and supported level ticket options available.
