Tales and Trails at Meadowbrook

You might pass by a stone without a second thought—but what if that same stone was a world of wonder, depending on how you see it? Join us at Meadowbrook Nature Preserve for a cozy Tales & Trails adventure as we read A Stone Sat Still by Brendan Wenzel.
After the story, we’ll head out on the trail to explore the many perspectives of the natural world. Through guided observation, we’ll take a closer look at stones, logs, and other small features in the landscape, imagining how they might be experienced by different animals and living things. Is it a resting place, a hiding spot, or a home?
We’ll wrap up with a hands-on activity, creating our own nature-inspired art that reflects how one simple object can be many things at once. This program encourages curiosity, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the often-overlooked details of the outdoors.
Please come prepared to be outdoors for the entire program. A jacket, boots, and a water bottle are recommended.
Tales & Trails invites children and their caregivers to gather for a short story that sparks curiosity, followed by an exploration of one of our beautiful conservation destinations. Expect to hear a tale and hike a trail while discovering the natural wonders around you together.
This is a 1.5-hour program designed for children ages 3-5. Younger siblings are welcome to join.
