Hand-Building Basics: Pottery

Want to learn the basics about building pottery by hand? Join Amy Smoot in this one-day workshop all about hand building processes! Students will learn how to create pottery starting off with a 1lb pinched cup, getting tips for how to gain height and width while maintaining even walls. Next, students will learn simple slab building techniques to create a small plate or bowl with style using molds and textures to customize. And finally, students will learn how to roll and build with coils of clay to finish off the course.
Students can expect to create and keep three small pieces from this class and can choose from a clear, white, blue or green glaze. All work will be glazed by the instructor and available for pick up in the clay studio approximately 3-4 weeks after class. All experience levels are welcome! There is a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 15 students. If the class fails to meet the minimum, participants will be refunded. .This workshop is sponsored in part by the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
