Details:
Anyone interested in learning more about how to catch and cook crayfish is encouraged to attend this free class on June 27, 2026. The Class will be held at MetroParks of Butler County, Gilmore Ponds at the Bilstein entrance (8300 Bilstein Blvd, Hamilton, OH 45015). Gilmore Ponds is a hot spot for the invasive and highly destructive red swamp crayfish. Once established this crayfish wreaks havoc on wetlands and native wildlife. Join us to learn more about red swamp crayfish identification, differences between native and non-native crayfish species, how to stop the spread through bait pathways, trapping methods, rules and regulations regarding crayfish, and how to prepare the red swamp crayfish.
Participants are encouraged to dress for the outdoors and wear old clothes, boots, gym shoes, or chest waders. There is a good chance you will get wet and dirty. Other equipment you might consider bringing; towel and a change of clothes.
Any questions can be directed to Jonathan.ankenbauer-ruehl@dnr.ohio.gov or 937-419-9025.
