Details:
Join us for the screening of "Acting Like Women," a film that revisits the influential feminist performance art movement of the 1970s and 1980s in Los Angeles. Created by artist Cheri Gaulke, the documentary highlights the transformative impact of the Woman’s Building (1973–1991) and its collective of artists who used their bodies and voices as tools for activism, significantly reshaping the cultural landscape for women. Before the screening, from 1–3pm, experience a special viewing of archival objects from the Woman’s Building in the Harold M. Williams Auditorium lobby, followed by a conversation between Gaulke and Getty Research Institute chief curator Glenn Phillips at 3pm. A reception will close the event on the terrace. "Acting Like Women" is produced by IAMBE FILMS and Metabolic Studio, with executive producers Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner. The event is supported by the Annenberg Foundation, California Humanities, and numerous individual contributions. Following the screening, the conversation will be available on the Getty Research Institute YouTube channel.
