Details:
Join Ohio State University Extension Seneca County as we celebrate America's 250th anniversary with a special public reading of the Declaration of Independence by Seneca County 4-H youth members.
On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, communities across the United States will gather at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time for a simultaneous reading of the Declaration of Independence, honoring the document that helped shape our nation and the ideals it continues to represent.
This event commemorates a historic tradition that began in 1776. On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence inside the Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall. Four days later, on July 8, the citizens of Philadelphia were summoned by the ringing of the city's bells to hear the Declaration publicly read for the very first time by Colonel John Nixon. Following the reading, the bells rang throughout the city in celebration long into the night.
We invite community members of all ages to join us as our local 4-H members bring these historic words to life and participate in this nationwide observance of America's 250th anniversary.
Meet at the America 250 Tree and Flagpole as we gather with communities across the nation to reflect on our shared history and celebrate the ideals of liberty, independence, and civic engagement.
