The John "Thunderbird Man" Emhoolah, Jr. Branch Library, formerly known as the Byers Branch, is a historic gem in Denver's Baker neighborhood. Established in 1918, this Carnegie library stands as a testament to history and culture. In 2021, it was renamed to honor the late John Emhoolah, a revered Kiowa and Arapaho leader who passionately championed Indigenous education and bravely survived the Sand Creek Massacre. This library not only serves as a vital community resource but also pays tribute to an inspiring figure in Indigenous history.
