History Excursion to Ochlocknee

Join the Thomasville History Center for a captivating History Excursion to Ochlocknee, Georgia, on Saturday, July 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This trip is part of our 2026 Excursions series, where you'll explore the historic towns of Old Thomas County, visiting churches and homes that reveal the unique heritage of the region. Ochlocknee, first settled by American citizens in the 1810s and officially chartered in the 1870s, is named after the river passing through it. The town witnessed growth post-Civil War as small farms emerged, later expanding with the arrival of the railroad, shaping the downtown area we know today. With a current population of around 700, Ochlocknee's economy remains rooted in agriculture and industry. Transportation is included, though attendees are welcome to drive separately.
