Nonfiction Book Discussion on Educated: A Memoir by Tara Westover on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Solarium at the main library.
Born into a family of survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was 17 years old when she first set foot in a classroom.
She and her siblings attended no schools, never visited a doctor or nurse, and were as isolated from mainstream society as one could be in late 20th century America.
Then she began to educate herself. Eventually, she was admitted to college where, for the first time, she learned about important world events like the Holocaust and the Civil Rights movement. She began exploring a world that she had never imagined...and then came to wonder if she would ever find her way home again.
As coming-of-age stories go, hers is a great one.
Read it and come discuss. Books are available at the library and online.
