The Museum of Florida History, established in 1977, serves as the official state history museum for Florida. Its core mission is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret evidence of past and present cultures in Florida, thereby promoting knowledge and appreciation of the state's heritage. The museum focuses on artifacts and historical eras that are unique to Florida's development, as well as the roles Floridians have played in national and global events. Through its exhibits, educational programs, research initiatives, and collections, the museum aims to reflect how people have shaped and been shaped by their cultural and natural environments. It has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums since 1986. The museum features both permanent and temporary exhibits, showcasing recreated historical structures and significant artifacts, covering themes from prehistoric life to Florida's contributions during World War II. It also operates the historic Knott House. The museum is administered by the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, a division of the Florida Department of State.
