What is a Notary Public? A Notary Public is a State designated official who may act to witness the signing of important documents, verify identities, and deter fraud. A Notary Public must verify a signer's identity via photo ID and check for document completion. Please be aware that a notary public cannot provide legal advice, draft legal documents, or explain the legal effects of a document unless they are also a licensed attorney.
What do you need to bring? The signer will need to present a government issued ID (ex. Driver's license, learner's permit, passport, military ID etc.) to the notary public. There is no fee for these services. For questions in advance of their notary appointment, individuals can call the County Clerk's office at (315) 435-2227 to speak with a Deputy Clerk.
