On Friday, June 5, at 10 a.m., two doctoral candidates will defend their dissertations: Nancy Cham and Odlanyer Hernandez De Lara. Nancy Cham's oral examination for her Ph.D. will take place in person at the Center for Science and Technology, room 1-132, with her advisor Professor Robert Doyle and a committee including Professors Xiaoran Hu, Weijun Gui, Weiwei Zheng, and Joseph Chaiken, chaired by Professor Jesse Bond. Her dissertation is titled “Peptide and Peptide Bioconjugate Based Drug Development for the Treatment of Metabolic Diseases.” Concurrently, Odlanyer Hernandez De Lara will defend his dissertation via Zoom, advised by Professor Theresa Singleton, with a committee of Professors Christopher Decorse, Guido Pezzarossi, Timur Hammond, and Alfredo Gonzalez-Ruibal, led by Professor Peng Gao as chair. His dissertation is titled “Violence, Destruction, and Memory: An Archaeological Approach to State Terrorism in Dictatorial Cuba (1952-1958).”
