Join us for the Cliterati Open Mic featuring FreeQuency in celebration of (On |Un-)Becoming, an event hosted by Charis that embraces both emerging and established voices in the literary community. Co-hosted by Karen G. and Theresa Davis, this open mic and reading series invites all to share their work. To perform, simply arrive by 7:15 PM ET to sign up, and if you're a non-acoustic musician, please contact us in advance to arrange technical support. Performances are encouraged to be under five minutes, with no restrictions on genre or style.
This month’s featured artist, FreeQuency, presents (On |Un-)Becoming, exploring themes of identity, transition, and personal transformation through the lens of international Blackness and migration. As a gender-renegade Kenyan e-immigrant and the 2018 Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion, FreeQuency's work examines lived experiences under racialized capitalism, making them a powerful voice in contemporary performance arts.
The event is free and open to everyone; however, donations of $5-20 are appreciated to support Charis Circle. Charis Books is wheelchair accessible and adheres to health safety guidelines, requiring face masks and encouraging attendees who feel unwell to stay home. For additional accessibility inquiries or to request ASL interpretation, reach out to us prior to the event. By attending, you agree to our Code of Conduct, which fosters a harassment-free environment for all participants. Join us for an evening of compelling storytelling, reflection, and community.
