Details:
Join the Black Feminist Book Club as we read and discuss **The Death of Vivek Oji** by Akwaeke Emezi, exploring themes of family, loss, and identity through the lens of Black feminist perspectives. This monthly gathering, facilitated by Yemisi Combahee from Black Feminist Future, takes place in-person at Charis, a historic feminist bookstore, on the first Sunday of each month at 3 PM. The club celebrates literature by Black transgender, gender expansive, and women writers while welcoming all community members to participate. Whether or not you've read the book, come as you are to engage with powerful narratives that highlight the struggles and experiences of marginalized groups.
In July, we delve into Emezi's poignant narrative where a mother discovers her son's lifeless body and the family’s desperate attempts to understand the lost child they barely knew. The story challenges expectations and connects deeply with themes of friendship and transcendence.
For in-person events, please remember to wear a face mask and respect our Code of Conduct, which fosters a harassment-free environment for all attendees. Donations of $5-20 are appreciated to support Charis Circle, our programming non-profit. For any inquiries, accessibility needs, or support, feel free to contact us at info@charisbooksandmore.com or call 404-524-0304.
