POT 05 - Beginning Handbuilding (Gould)

The pottery program offers two engaging classes: "Beginning Handbuilding" and "Beginning Wheel," designed for students of varying skill levels to explore their creativity in ceramics. In "Beginning Handbuilding," students learn the art of creating ceramic forms using pinch, coil, and slab techniques without a potter’s wheel, while also familiarizing themselves with essential safety guidelines in the ceramics studio. Tuition includes a supply fee of $98, covering one bag of stoneware, raku, or Lizella earthenware clay, glazes, and 2,000 cubic inches of firing space; however, students must provide their own tools.

In "Beginning Wheel," students focus on fundamental techniques such as throwing, glazing, and firing to create small forms like cups and bowls. This class also requires a supply fee for clay and firing space. Both classes emphasize hands-on experiences in a supportive environment, with an additional opportunity for intermediate students to further their skills in altered pottery techniques in "Altered Pottery." All work must be completed in the Pottery Program studios at Callanwolde, ensuring a dedicated space for creativity and learning.
