Details:
The pottery program offers a range of classes for students of various skill levels, focusing on both handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques.
- **Beginning Handbuilding (POT 05)**: This introductory class teaches the fundamentals of creating ceramic forms without a potter's wheel using pinch, coil, and slab techniques. Students will also learn essential safety guidelines for the ceramics studio.
- **Intermediate Handbuilding (POT 06)**: For those who have completed the Beginning Handbuilding course, this class encourages creative expression with new forms, techniques, and surface designs. Projects can focus on functional works or sculptural ideas.
- **Beginning Wheel (POT 13)**: Aimed at beginners, this class introduces students to the basics of wheel throwing, glazing, and firing. Projects will primarily involve small forms like cups, bowls, and saucers, alongside safety procedures in the studio.
- **Altered Pottery (POT 17)**: Designed for intermediate wheel students, this class continues the exploration of throwing techniques and enhances skills in glazing and firing while encouraging artistic alteration of forms.
All virtual and onsite pottery classes include a $98 supply fee that covers the cost of one bag of clay (various types available), glazes, and firing space, though tools must be provided by students. Additional materials can be purchased from the studio, and all work must be completed within the Pottery Program studios at Callanwolde.
