Potawatomi Zoological Society

The Potawatomi Zoological Society is dedicated to assisting and advising the city of South Bend, Indiana, by acting as community representatives and providing fiduciary funding for the Potawatomi Park Zoo. Their primary mission is to promote excellence in education, conservation, and improved animal quality of life. The Society aims to protect and preserve the diversity of species on Earth, offer guests a unique and meaningful animal experience, and be recognized as a premier regional destination. They actively fundraise for securing and maintaining animals and facilities, foster public interest in the zoo, and support zoological natural history studies. The zoo itself, established in 1921 and one of Indiana's oldest, houses over 400 animals across 23 acres and participates in numerous Species Survival Plans, including critical conservation efforts for species like the Amur leopard. The Society also supports conservation initiatives globally and engages in wildlife rehabilitation when possible. They offer various support opportunities, including volunteerism and financial contributions through different giving societies and funds, all contributing to the zoo's mission and the enrichment of its animals and visitors.
