In this talk, we’ll cover:
What is the pelvic floor?
A simple, easy-to-understand look at what the pelvic floor is, where it lives in the body, and the important role it plays in things like bladder and bowel control, core support, and everyday movement.
What is pelvic floor therapy and who can it help?
An overview of what pelvic floor therapy actually looks like and who may benefit from it. We’ll talk about common concerns—such as bladder or bowel changes, pelvic discomfort, and core weakness—and why these issues are more common (and treatable) than many people realize.
How the pelvic floor changes during the pregnancy, postpartum, and during the menopause transition
A discussion on how hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can affect the pelvic floor, what symptoms people often notice, and why these changes are normal—and not something you just have to “live with.”
Simple, practical ways to support your pelvic floor
Gentle, everyday strategies you can start using right away, including 360-degree breathing, posture and movement awareness, and healthy bladder and bowel habits that support pelvic floor function.
"Dara Clauson (she/her) is an Occupational Therapist specializing in pelvic floor therapy, with over 18 years of clinical experience across long-term care, inpatient rehabilitation, and home-based therapy. Her holistic approach is deeply informed by both this broad clinical background and her personal experience recovering from a birth injury, allowing her to provide highly practical, individualized care in your own environment.
She has pursued a breadth of advanced pelvic health training including the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Floor Level 1 course, OT Pioneers, the Level 1 Functional Pelvic Health Practitioner Certification, and the Level 2 program for Trauma Informed Pelvic Health Certification. This depth of education supports thorough, evidence-informed evaluation and high-quality treatment.
When she's not working, she enjoys life with her husband and two daughters, playing board games, curling up with a good book, and knitting. Depending on the time of year you can also see her outside in her dahlia patch and vegetable garden, or spending time on the slopes."
